My Stock Trading Journey
My stock trading journey began in 2017, a time filled with both excitement and uncertainity, as I navigated the overwhelming amount of information available to new traders.
With over eight years immersed in the stock market, I’ve gained considerable experience through hands-on trading and mentorship. This journey has exposed me to a wide range of trading styles, from short-term day trading to long-term positions trading across stocks, commodities, and indices listed in the Indian stock markets. Along the way, I have navigated the full spectrum of trading emotions, from the highs of euphoria to the lows of despair.
Like many, I initially focused heavily on technical analysis, believing it to be the sole key to trading success. However, through years of practical experience, I discovered the crucial importance of two other key factors: overall market direction and fundamentals of a company . I now understand that a successful trading strategy requires a holistic approach, integrating market direction, technical and fundamental analysis.
This synergistic approach not only enhances the probability of profitable trades in the long run but also ensures timely market participation and avoid trading during unfavorable market conditions. Ultimately i believe , the road to consistent profitability in stock trading is a journey which requires strong commitment to the learning process, embracing lessons which the markets give you along the way and taking small steps to improve yourself as a stock trader one day at a time .
Consistency in stock trading is elusive for most as it hinges fundamentally on understanding your temprament,focusing on 1 or 2 stratergies and becoming an expert in those and focusing on effective risk management in your trading .
My Trading Style
Swing cum Positions Trading
I’m a swing cum positions trader in stocks which are listed in Indian stock markets .
I trade only the long side as:
- It is my strong belief that India and therefore the Indian stock market is in a long term bull market.
- Trading the long side in stocks aligns perfectly with my temperament and also suits my daily routine. This is because despite being a stock trader , i also have a business which requires my attention .Moreover, from my experience as a swing cum positions trader, i learnt that i do not have to sit in front of the trading screen all day .
- The Rewards to risk ratio is much more in trading the long side of stocks.
My Trading Approach
Market Direction : Critical for profitable stock trading ,it allows one to align their strategies with the prevailing trend, increasing the probability of profitable trades. Identifying whether the market is trending upwards, downwards, or sideways helps determine appropriate entry and exit points
Technicals : Offers a valuable framework for interpreting market data and anticipating potential price movements. By examining historical price and volume dynamics, traders can discern trends, identify key support and resistance levels, and pinpoint strategic entry and exit points. This analytical approach empowers informed trading decisions, helps control risk better, and enhances the potential for profitable outcomes.
Fundamentals : Essential for understanding the intrinsic value of an asset. It involves examining financial statements, economic indicators, and industry trends to assess a company’s financial health and growth potential. By understanding the underlying factors that drive an asset’s value, one can make informed choices and potentially achieve better risk adjusted returns.
